If your Dog Loves Food & Balls - This is the Game for Them!

This game is just one of the ideas that I show you in the 'Fun and Games free workshop'. If you own or know a dog that adores food and balls, then this is most definitely the game for them.

You can use a game like this to feed their breakfast/lunch/supper - it makes meal times last longer, it challenges their grey matter and it keeps them occupied. Have a go and let me know what you think. Pictures and videos always gratefully received.

New Workshop and Classes Starting

I have finally managed to find 2 great venues that will let me run a class and workshop from their premises. Hooray!

DOG GAMES & ENTERTAINMENT WORKSHOP
Venue: Hackney City Farm, Hackney Rd, E2
Time: May 18th, June 15th, August 10th from 7 - 8.30pm
Services: This is a workshop about mental stimulation for dogs. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted onto the farm premises so its for humans only. This workshop gives owners some background on why dogs need more than just a walk each day and gives you, the owner the opportunity to understand which games might work for your breed of your dog. We will look at the history of different breeds and come up with games for your individual dogs. There will also be the opportunity to buy toys and worksheets will be provided to take away and make your own games to stimulate your dogs mind.
Price: £25

DOG TRAINING CLASSES
Venue: Goldsmith Community Hall, Goldsmith Square (behind The Albion Pub on Goldsmith Row, E2)
Time: Monday evening 7- 8pm for 5 weeks
Size: Classes limited to up to 6 dogs
Services: We will be using reward based methods to teach your dog useful commands such as stay, the running wait and retreive.
Price: £110

Time Magazine Article- The Cross Species Bond

I recently came across this article, its a bit old but its interesting nonetheless. It does just confirm what all of us dog owners already know...there is a cross species bond between dogs and humans that is not found anywhere else in the animal kingdom.

The article in Time magazine talks about how many dogs can decipher what a human finger pointing means. They understand that it means to look in the direction that it is pointing or follow something in that direction. Whilst its a natural action for a human it certainly isn't for a dog. And when you think about it, it is pretty clever that the dogs in our lives are able to follow a little bit of our thought process.

The American university involved in the study are doing a lot more research into the subject. I think whats interesting about this article is that it highlights how important it is to interact with your dog. Not just it plodding behind you on a walk but playing games, getting on the floor and interacting, using your dogs mind and stimulating it. Keep up the hard work Team Dog!
